And yet, it began with a single painting by Boi Tran, a quiet work of lacquer that spoke not of grandeur, but of grace. It was her voice, contemporary, contemplative, deeply human, that first drew him in. To celebrate the centenary of the creation of the School of Fine Arts of Indochina, Christie&#8217;s will present from June 8 to 13 an exhibition of important artworks from the Melchior Dejouany Collection devoted to Vietnamese art with no fewer than nine artists, including <strong>L\u00ea Ph\u1ed5<\/strong>, <strong>Mai Trung Th\u1ee9<\/strong>, <strong>V\u0169 Cao \u0110\u00e0m, Nguy\u1ec5n Gia Tr\u00ed, L\u01b0\u01a1ng Xu\u00e2n Nh\u1ecb, Ho\u00e0ng T\u00edch Ch\u00f9, Tr\u01b0\u01a1ng B\u00e9, Nguy\u1ec5n Trung <\/strong>and <strong>B\u1ed9i Tr\u00e2n.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<p>Bringing together eleven exceptional works by nine distinguished Vietnamese artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, the exhibition of the Melchior Dejouany Collection invites viewers on a captivating journey through the timeless allure of Vietnam. Thanks to his discerning eyes and the invaluable guidance of renowned Vietnamese art expert Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Hubert, Melchior Dejouany&#8217;s collection has flourished over the past decade, spanning a diverse range of mediums. In 2012, he discovered a Vietnamese lacquerware created by the artist Boi Tran. Thus,\u00a0Luong Xuan Nhi&#8217;s reputation\u00a0is based on graceful female portraits where realism and romanticism, tradition and modernity combine. As this\u00a0<em>Portrait of a Lady<\/em> from 1939 attests, the artist, also nicknamed\u00a0<em>Master of the Color Green<\/em>, perfectly mastered the secrets of oil painting while dressing his model in traditional clothing.
