Collectors are individuals touched to the core, who, through hard work and intuition, select the most exquisite works primarily for their personal enjoyment. The interest in a work lies in the quality and complexity of its execution, the emotions it evokes, and the story it tells, whether directly or indirectly.
The eleven works presented in the exhibition come from Melchior Dejouany's personal collection, which he has built over the last ten years. In 2012, he discovered a Vietnamese lacquerware created by the artist Boi Tran. He has since become passionate about Vietnamese art, the diversity of its techniques and the richness of its subjects, striving to bring together a collection representing 100 years of Vietnamese art (1920-2020) between lacquer, painting on silk, drawings, oil on canvas and sculpture.
I hope the gallery will cooperate and work side by side with a humbled semi skilled and below average painter who, 60 years ago (not so many), was trained and educated in a city of exquisite sceneries and graceful people, Hue.
