About Boi Tran Garden

Boi Tran Garden stands as a luminous sanctuary, an enduring symbol of Vietnam’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Revered as both the Boi Tran Art Gallery and a pioneering presence in the national art scene, it holds the singular distinction of being the first and only gallery of its kind in the historic Imperial city of Hue. Since its founding in 1995, it has become a haven where fine art, rare antiques, and centuries-old architecture converge with the refined culinary traditions that have long defined Hue as the culinary soul of Vietnam.

Alongside Hanoi’s Minh Chau Art Gallery (2000–2005), Boi Tran Garden has earned acclaim for its keen curatorial eye and bespoke approach to the acquisition and presentation of fine art. More than a gallery, it offers a rarefied experience, where the tastes, textures, and stories of Hue’s royal cuisine harmonise with its artistic past, inviting visitors to savour both visual and gastronomic splendour.

At the heart of this living masterpiece is Boi Tran, a visionary artist born in the cradle of Imperial Hue, a city steeped in poetry, pain, and perseverance through a tumultuous century. In the face of adversity, her artistic spirit and culinary mastery have flourished. First founded on Thien An Hill in 1998, her garden found new life atop Kim Son Hill in 2022. Here, amid the whisper of pines and the grace of resilient blossoms, guests encounter treasures by some of Vietnam’s most significant artists: Victor Tardieu, Vu Cao Dam, Luong Xuan Nhi, To Ngoc Van, Tran Quang Tran, Hoang Tich Chu, Diep Minh Chau, Nguyen Do Cung, Nguyen Sang, Nguyen Tien Cung, Nguyen Tu Nghiem, Kim Dong, Tran Dong Luong, Bui Xuan Phai, Truong Be, Tran Khanh Chuong, Hoang Dang Nhuan, Nguyen Trung, Luu Cong Nhan, Dinh Cuong, Trinh Cong Son, Vinh Phoi, Tran Van Mang, and many others. These works are lovingly displayed in a meticulously preserved 100-year-old mansion, imbued with the timeless elegance of French Indochina architecture.

The garden itself is a quietly radiant Eden, at once diverse, refined, and simple. Fleeting blooms like the lotus and epiphyllum, flowers that unfurl only under the cover of night, then vanish with the morning sun, speak to the delicate, transitory beauty at the heart of Boi Tran’s creative vision. Her art and her garden are one: each nourishes and reflects the soul of the other.

Among the many honoured guests to cross its threshold was the late, great Anthony Bourdain, who in 2014 featured Boi Tran and her exquisite royal cuisine on CNN’s Parts Unknown. His visit marked the world’s brief but unforgettable glimpse into a place where heritage breathes and beauty lingers.

At Boi Tran Garden, we invite you to step into this rare world, a harmonious tapestry of art, memory, and flavour, and experience the living legacy of one of Vietnam’s most cherished cultural treasures.
