Intersecting: Classical Vietnamese Elegance and French Indochina Influences — Where Architecture and Art Meet Culinary Culture
BOI TRAN: 'ARTIST, CHEF AND CREATOR OF HER MAGNIFICENT GARDEN'
Born in Imperial Hue City, in central Vietnam, a city that suffered more than engendered the painful political events of the 20th century, the artist knew nothing of the influences – positive or negative – that nourished “the Schools”.
Boi Tran’s Edenlike garden in Hue bears witness to this: diversity and elegance, but for simplicity as well, a lotus or an epiphyllum, whose flower opens during the night before quickly vanishing, communicates this. The garden would not exist without Boi Tran, yet, Boi Tran the painter would not exist without the garden.
Garden culinary creations are, based on traditional receipts, heavily influenced by art (in particular, contemporary and fine arts), and the dining space is made up of an elegant hall that is adorned with unique contemporary artworks. Boi Tran Garden weaves a range of narratives through the dishes, playing with ingredients, flowers, and herbs from the surrounding garden. Dip a fork into the menu on any given day and you'll quickly discover that the food more than holds its own. "Complexity, but not complicated," is how Boi Tran Garden describes the deceptively simple dishes.
